Gorka in Erie

Sebastian Gorka is scheduled to speak at Jefferson Educational Society on Nov. 7. Many have expressed their disappointment or disgust, and there is a petition drive and a protest outside JES (two separate organizations).
It is predictably problematic that demanding that an organization that was set up to communicate a variety of ideas should shut down a purveyor of dangerous ideas.
For myself, if I had had the energy to respond to it, I probably would have tried to do an alternative to what he represents: an event that addressed the normalization of his extreme right ideas, or pointing out that he is something of an imposter and fraud as regards being qualified to speak at the Global Summit, or the idea that his "expert" opinion on Trump be balanced with someone as unqualified as he from the other side (say, Omarosa ).

Anyway, some actions:
* KEYSTONE PROGRESS PETITION  The statewide progressive organization has an online petition demanding that Gorka's appearance be banned. The petition made the front page of the Erie Times-News. Go to petition here
~~~
ERIE ANTIFASCISM has called for a protest outside the event. The profile photo for the group shows two masked persons with a hammer and sickle behind them. I have seen this image associated with Red Guards. The Erie group--if it is actually a group--is affiliated with Antifascist Pittsburgh, and their page encourages participation in this Erie event. I'm not spending any time discussing their movement or tactics here, just letting you know who is organizing it and that the tone of the event has the possibility of aggressive confrontation.
~~~
* SHARE INFORMATION ABOUT GORKA Some examples what a poor choice of speaker he is:

    Ways to respond to Trump visit

    There have been differences over how best to respond to the Oct 10 visit from Donald Trump. And some have just suggested that just ignoring the Orange Curse would be the best.
    Here is a list of some choices:
    • Protest rally on the day of the visit. This will be Oct 10 at 5pm, location: 10th & French. Organizers have asked that it be peaceful. (Event called by a group of local women). Info: ErieCountyAction@gmail.com
    • Canvassing event day of visit 5pm Location: 202 W. 11th, Erie PA  (side door) "Join Erie County United, Keystone Progress Erie and Planned Parenthood in a protest-canvass. We will have food and training and people to talk to in all neighborhoods in Erie County, including yours." Event page
    • Get together with friends (old and new!) after the events.  We are feeling a lot of pain right now. Take care of yourself. Support and love each other.
    • Volunteer at Campaign headquarters Help win the upcoming November 6th mid-term elections. In Erie  County campaign HQ is at 13th & State (814) 460-4717. Outside Erie, contact your county Dem HQ for how to volunteer or visit https://events.mobilizeamerica.io/padems/
    • Register to vote the friends and family  Keep track of them and ensure that they vote on November 6th. The deadline to vote in Pennsylvania is October 9. You can register to vote here: https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/…/VoterRegistrationAppli…
    • Contribute to Election Efforts
    • Also: Erie County Dems have started a number of caucuses if you would like to work with an affinity. In various stages of development, these include Young Dems, Black Caucus, Progressive Caucus, LGBTQIA+ caucus, Veterans, and Democratic Women. Other affinity groups include labor and Planned Parenthood.
