WOMEN

The Mercy Center for Women 31st Annual Women Making History event on  March 25th 7pm at the Mercyhurst University Performing Arts Center in Erie. "This event recognizes women in Erie County for the countless ways they impact and influence the lives in our community. They serve quietly and mirror the image of the Mercy Center mission. Event is open and free to the public, no RSVP required. A private reception is held prior to the event for sponsors and honorees." 

Generation Her 'Join us the next time "Generation Her" gets together. Generation Her is a community building space for women of color in Erie. It's an intergenerational space where we talk about our unique experiences and partake in community care and love. Mar 21 - Single Voice Reading Khaled Mattawa  7pm Allegheny College, Tippie Alumni Center/Cochran Hall, Tillotson Room Meadville. Khaled Mattawa is the author of numerous books of poetry, and a critical study of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Open to public.

Emmaus Ministries marks 50 years Organized by Benedictine Sisters, the soup kitchen that began in January 1974 Today in addition to the soup kitchen, they operate a food pantry; Sister Gus' Kids Cafe (provides an after-school program including a nourishing meal, homework assistance and supervised gym activities); and Emmaus Grove (community garden that provides over 2,000 pounds of organic produce annually to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry). The current Emmaus newsletter The Companion provides a look back over the history of Emmaus since that first meal 50 years ago, including personal recollections by Sisters and volunteers. “Over the course of this year, The Companion will look back on the history of Emmaus, highlight the work of this present moment, and share our vision for the future” View newsletter on Emmaus website or here

Jewish Voice for Peace  has chapters in Pittsburgh  and Cleveland. "Jewish Voice for Peace members are inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, equality, human rights, respect for international law, and a U.S. foreign policy based on these ideals.... JVP seeks an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem; security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians; a just solution for Palestinian refugees based on principles established in international law; an end to violence against civilians; and peace and justice for all peoples of the Middle East."

100 black men announces new partnerships (Erie News Now) ‘Ken Nickson, the Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion and Belonging for Erie's Public Schools explained, "These mentors will come into our building speak typically with 10 students at a time, rotate on a quarterly basis going over character be about it and the four pillars of the 100 Black Men and really infuse and shift some of that mindset that's there."’

Good Friday Pilgrimage for Peace "Stations of the Cross and the suffering of war" Friday, March 29, 2024 begins at 11 a.m. on March 29th, at St. Peter Cathedral. Click link for the full itinerary. A chartered bus will leave Mount St. Benedict at 10:30 am.
• A chartered bus will be available for those who choose to ride for all or any part of the Pilgrimage. All are invited for Good Friday prayer at Mt.
