What: Vigil to close Guantanamo
When: Thursday,
January 8, 2015 4:45 – 5:15
Where: Federal Building in Erie, PA, (State
and South Park Row)
Who: Sponsored
by Mary the Apostle Catholic Worker in solidarity with Witness
Against
Torture in DC. http://www.witnesstorture.org
Why: This January 11th, 2015, marks the beginning of 14 years of torture and indefinite detention at Guantanamo. On December 15, Pope Francis asked the U.S. to find an “adequate humanitarian solution” for prisoners held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center. Currently, 136 men remain, half of whom have been cleared for release but remain held without charge or trial. The administration will not disclose how many of them continue to hunger strike and how many are force-fed.
We are looking for 68 people to
“stand for” the men currently cleared for release from Guantanamo by wearing a
placard with their name.
