Journalism Conference: “Honoring Ida: Celebrating the Work and Legacies of Ida Tarbell and Ida B. Wells-Barnett” Vukovich Center for Communication Arts The Journalism in the Public Interest Program at Allegheny College will host its third conference. This year’s focus will be on women journalists and the work of two outstanding women journalists — Ida Tarbell, Allegheny College Class of 1880, and Ida B. Wells-Barnett — as it relates to the theme of voting rights. Academic partners for the conference include Ohio University and Central State University (Wilberforce, Ohio). More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Mar 11 – “A Place at the Table” Jamestown Community College, Jamestown NY. Doc about food insecurity, part of Endangered Earth film  series, sponsored by JCC’s sustainability program, free and open to the public. Films begin at 7 p.m. in Carnahan Center Theatre, feature a guided post-screening discussion. As part of its screening, Jamestown Community College’s sustainability program will host a dinner to benefit St. Susan Center., beginning at 6 p.m., Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center on JCC’s Jamestown Campus. $10 suggested donation.

Mar 25 – Romero Award Preesentation and Lecture The Mercyhurst University Department of Religious Studies presents its 2015 Archbishop Oscar Romero Award to Sister Mary Claire Kennedy, SSJ, social justice coordinator for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Erie. The presentation is set for Wed., March 25, at 7 p.m. in the Mercy Heritage Room, Sullivan Hall. Known locally for her involvement in outreach efforts like the Thanksgiving Dinner and the “Take Back the Site” vigils, Sister Mary Claire has also been instrumental in raising awareness about human trafficking, the topic she will address in her lecture.” Info: Dr. Daniel McFee dmcfee@mercyhurst.edu

MATV Job Fair Mothers Against Teen Violence is once again sponsoring a Youth Summer Job Fair to take place Saturday, March 28 at the Booker T. Washington Center from 12-3PM. The orientation for job seekers, which was very well attended last year, will run from noon til 1PM and the Fair will pick up from 1-3PM 

Mar 28 - Gull Point Clean-Up  9am – 12pm Presque Isle State Park “Join Park Naturalists for a litter clean-up within the Gull Point Natural Area. Meet at Gull Point trailhead at Beach 10 parking lot. The natural area of Gull Point is closed to the public from April 1st until November 30th therefore, misses Presque Isle's annual spring clean-up and fall International Coastal Clean-up. The total out and back walk is four miles over sandy terrain. Once we arrive at the tip of Gull Point, we will be picking up debris along the shoreline. Be prepared for the weather on that day. Two women who share a passion for issues of peace and justice – especially as they affect women – will share the stage when Mercyhurst University hosts the second annual Joan D. Chittister Lecture on April 9.

Organized by Environment Erie “Attendees will learn what low impact development is and how to encourage it in today’s world through best management practices that can be easily adapted to residential properties. Upon completion of the workshop, each participating household will receive a free Rain Wizard bin and stormwater handouts. There will be a fee of $10 per family to attend the workshop and limits of one bin per household, family members are welcome!” Refreshments served.
