VETO
Special Meeting in front of Erie County Council next week where the proposed veto and reductions will be voted on. The Special Meeting is scheduled for Monday, 12/18/23 at 6:00 pm (with a 5:00 pm caucus meeting prior). ~ via Freda Tepfer

Erie City Council OKs new sidewalk access rules related to construction sites

Erie City Council taking up amending farm animal ordinance at December 5 meeting. Public comments: Jackie Spry spoke of concerns regarding protecting animal welfare and public health (14:25) Council discussion and action at 32: 20.

PA gets funding for wildlife corridors    (Penn Capital Star) Pennsylvania is set to receive federal grant money to reduce and prevent the number of deadly collisions between vehicles and wildlife on the Commonwealth’s roadways.

ARTS & EATS 

Las Calles de Oaxaca is on view and Erie Art Museum Sept 2023 to Feb 2024. "exhibit is punctuated by large-scale linocut prints from an underground artist collective, known as Subterráneos, whose work is often mural-sized, profoundly political, and seen wheat-pasted on buildings throughout Oaxaca’s historic center." On December 15th, Erie DSA will visit together (on Gallery Night).

Café 7-10 expanding Owner Mabel Howard announces that she will be expanding the café, located at 7 West 10th. She has also just started a book club, in addition to the café poetry reading.

Gallery Night is December 15. Participants include 1020 Collective, Blasco, PACA, Purrista Cafe, Ember+Forge, Glass Growers, Historical Institute of Culture and the African American Experience... Host: Erie Art Museum.

The Color Purple opens December 25, speculated streaming Feb 2024. Musical based on Alice Walker's 1982 novel of the same name.

Edinboro Market set to double its size (YourErie) "Edinboro Market, located at 109 Erie St. in downtown Edinboro announced ... they were awarded $663,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funding to remodel and create a significantly larger retail space as well as add a new café to highlight local ingredients." 

Killers of the Flower Moon will screen Jan 6 at Reg Lenna in Jamestown NY

Erie County Council approves more funds for lawyers for poor (ETN via Yahoo)

New Mental Health Workers to Assist Erie Police Department (Erie News Now) "EPD rolled out their Crisis Intervention Unit back in May to help officers responding to those calls. Now, thanks to a federal grant of almost $400,000, the department is expanding their team."

Tree of Life Memorial unveiled (TribLIVE) Memorial to 2018 Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh unveiled on December 7.

Talented 7-year-old guitarist Coen Krysiak -- whose instrumental performance of Metallica's "One" on Tik Tok went viral -- is from Erie. The anti-war song was inspired by the story Johnny Got His Gun, and is also receiving renewed attention due to the viral video.
