Thru Sep 30 -  “Environmental Impact” Main Gallery Erie Art Museum, 411 State, Erie.  “brings together the works of leading contemporary artists who focus on global and local environmental issues, using the power of art to heighten public awareness and concern about the degradation of earth’s ecosystems. These artists put their technical mastery and visionary talents in service of their conscience.”

Aug 22 - Opening Reception with Washington DC Environmentalist 7-9pm Erie Art Museum, 411 State, Erie. Dan Chu, Sierra Club’s Director of “Our Wild America” campaign, joins us to celebrate the opening of Environmental Impact. The “Our Wild America” campaign seeks to protect public lands and wildlife, keep dirty fuels in the ground, and engage families and kids in exploring and protecting nature. The first 100 event attendees will receive a signed wildlife print by celebrated local artist, Brad Lethaby. Free, open to public.
Aug 23-24 - Elmwood Festival of the Arts Buffalo NY. Community festival in Buffalo’s wonderful Elmwood neighborhood.
Aug 24 – WOMENS EQUALITY DAY 2PM Ceremonial march from City Hall to Perry Square.Reflections from Suffragists Lucretia Mott, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Music by Mike Malthaner and Selena King. Concert by Gem City Concert Band Voter Registration by League of Women Voters of Erie County three more marchers in costume are needed.  If you have a white dress and purple sash,please wear them. If it is raining, the celebration will be moved from Perry Square to Jefferson Society, 32nd & State.
Aug 26 – TBTS Vigil for Mary Elizabeth Page  5:15PM 2716 Liberty St. Prayer vigil at the site of murder victim. Hosted by Benedictines, Sisters of St Joseph and Sisters of Mercy. 
Sep 3 - The Legacy of Howard Zahniser  Erie Art Museum, 411 State, Erie Special event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act At Erie Art Museum. In 1964, the Wilderness Act created the first legal definition of “wilderness” in the US and protected 9.1 million acres of federal land; today, it remains an important national preservation policy. The Museum is pleased to host Justin Duewel-Zahniser, grandson of Wilderness Act author Howard Zahniser, to share about one of our country’s greatest tools for protecting America’s wild places. Join Museum Director, John Vanco, for an intimate gallery tour of Environmental Impact following the lecture. | 7 to 9 p.m. | Free, open to the public

Sep 7 – “The Hand That Feeds” Margaret Langer Film Series… 2 p.m. in Taylor Little Theatre at Mercyhurst University. “Risking deportation and the loss of livelihood, the workers team up with a diverse crew of young organizers to form an independent union. In one rollercoaster year, they must overcome a shocking betrayal and a two-month lockout. Lawyers will battle in backroom negotiations, Occupy Wall Street protesters will take over the restaurant, and a picket line will divide the neighborhood. If they can win a contract, it will set a historic precedent for low-wage workers across the country. But whatever happens, Mahoma and his compañeros won’t be exploited again.” The filmmaker will be present for a conversation following the film.
Sep 11 - Edinboro University, WQLN Provide An Early Glimpse Of 'The Roosevelts' Edinboro University and WQLN Public Media are collaborating to host a documentary screening and panel discussion that focuses on one of the most prominent families in the history of American politics at 7 p.m. on The event, which will be held in Room 107A of Compton Hall on the EU campus, will begin with a screening of the Ken Burns/PBS documentary "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History."

Sep 14 – Kids for Cash” Mercyhurst Institute for Arts and Culture (MIAC) will present the documentary based on the Kids for Cash scandal in a separate event Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. in Taylor Little Theatre. Stay After! Bob Blakely, the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer of Erie County, will comment and answer questions on the scandal and how PA has responded.

Sep 21 - My Home – Our Planet – the Future? Commit to Make a Difference  2 – 4 pm, in Perry Square, Erie PA  Inspired by Campaign Nonviolence's call to plan nonviolent actions in hundreds of cities during the week of September 21-27 calling for an end to war, poverty and the climate crisis, members of Benedictines for Peace will host an environmental event: My Home – Our Planet – the Future? Commit to Make a Difference – on Sunday, September 21, from 2 – 4 pm, in Perry Square. The goal of this event is to bring greater awareness to the reality that, together, we can create a more sustainable world for current and future generations. The celebration in Perry Square is in conjunction with the coming together of faith and environmental groups in New York City on this date to take part in the People’s Climate March. September 21 is the eve of the UN Summit on Climate Change and is also celebrated as International Day of Peace.You are invited to join the afternoon’s attractions in Perry Square which will include speakers, musical presentations by area youth choirs, special activities for children and families, ideas for reducing one’s personal carbon footprint, an invitation to individuals and families to sign a pledge to care for the earth, and participation by various area religious and environmental groups. Campaign Nonviolence is a long term movement developed by the Franciscan peace and justice organization,Pace e Bene.

Sep 24 - Diversity speaker Andrew Solomon at Mercyhurst The Tanner Speaker Series will be sponsoring a campus talk by Andrew Solomon, author of the best-selling book “Far from the Tree”, on September 24, 2014, at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center at Mercyhurst University in Erie. Elegantly reported by a spectacularly original thinker,”Far from the Tree” explores themes of generosity, acceptance, and tolerance — all rooted in the insight that love can transcend every prejudice. Sep 27 - "Harvest the Hope: Neil Young & Willie Nelson in Concert" Nebraska concert to fight the Keystone XL Pipeline, all proceeds from the show going to Bold Nebraska, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Cowboy and Indian Alliance. Also performing will be Native American hip-hop artist Frank Waln, Lukas Nelson (son of Willie!) and the “Stopping the Pipeline Rocks All-Stars,” some of the local Nebraska artists who recorded a benefit album in the solar-powered barn built inside the path of the Keystone XL pipeline last summer. Month of October -  Edinboro is sponsoring a "One Campus Experience" series of events centered around commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act, and as part of that, the re will be events designed to educate about the LGBT rights movement. Details TBA

Oct 3 – Harry Chapin: A Family Celebration Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, Jamestown NY. “Harry Chapin: A Family Celebration, will unite the late singer-songwriter’s brother, nieces and touring bandmates in a concert that has been three decades in the making. …In a June 1981 concert (the first live show on the then ‘Palace’ stage in 25 years), Harry Chapin performed on a decrepit stage under a leaky roof to an enthusiastic and umbrella-carrying audience. Before the end of the show, Chapin pledged to return to Jamestown for a fundraiser if the community committed to restoring the theater. Harry Chapin was tragically killed in an auto accident a month later, but the movement had already begun. In less than ten years, the Palace had been restored to its former glory and re-christened, The Reg Lenna Civic Center.”

Nov 30 – Cleve Jones Visiting Erie for World AIDS Day. Jones conceived of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, the world's largest piece of community folk art (54 tons). Organized by Greater Erie Alliance for Equality. Details TBA
