World leaders will be in New York City for a historic UN summit on climate change this weekend. Tens of thousands of passionate and dedicated allies will flood the streets of NYC in a unified demonstration to act on climate!
Here are some events going on in the area. The organization's website can put you in touch with events going on in NYC and elsewhere, as well as transportation and accommodations.

ERIE

Sep 21 - My Home – Our Planet – the Future? Commit to Make a Difference  2 – 4 pm, in Perry Square, Erie PA  Organized by members of Benedictines for Peace, the celebration in Perry Square is in conjunction with a number of faith groups coming together in New York City on this date to take part in the People’s Climate March, convening at United Nations Headquarters. Speakers, poets, presentations by the Young People’s Chorus of Erie and the Erie Playhouse Youtheatre Showstoppers, special activities for children and families, ideas for reducing one’s personal carbon footprint, and an invitation to individuals and families to sign, a pledge to care for the earth.
In case of rain, festivities will move to the Yehl Ballroom in the Waldron Center of Gannon University (entrance off Peach Street, just north of the Hammermill Center).

Bus to "People's Climate March-NYC"

Bio: Mr. McKibben is a well-known educator and activist whose devotion to environmental and social issues marks him as the most important environmentalist of his generation. He is the author of a fourteen books about the environment, beginning with The End of Nature in 1989, which is regarded as the first book for a general audience on climate change. He is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign, 350.org, which has coordinated 15,000 rallies in 189 countries since 2009. Time Magazine called him 'the planet's best green journalist' and the Boston Globe said in 2010 that he was 'probably the country's most important environmentalist.' Mr. McKibben is Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury College and holds honorary degrees from a dozen colleges, including the Universities of Massachusetts and Maine, the State University of New York, and Whittier and Colgate Colleges. In 2011 he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mr. McKibben is also a frequent contributor to various magazines including The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, Orion Magazine, Mother Jones, The New York Review of Books, Granta, Rolling Stone, and Outside. He is also a board member and contributor to Grist Magazine.
Mr. McKibben has been awarded Guggenheim and Lyndhurst Fellowships, and he won the Lannan Prize for nonfiction writing in 2000. He has honorary degrees from Green Mountain College, Unity College, Lebanon Valley College and Sterling College.
