New Interstate Gas Pipeline Proposed for Ohio and Pennsylvania
THE LINE WOULD CARRY NATURAL GAS TO BOOST ASHTABULA COUNTY CAPACITY.
INFORMATIONAL MEETING LED BY RH ENERGY ON WEDNESDAY DEC. 6 IN EDINBORO FROM 5:30 to 7:30 AT THE EDINBORO FIREHOUSE, 125 MEADVILLE ST. COME PREPARED TO ASK CHALLENGING QUESTIONS AND MAKE ENLIGHTENED STATEMENTS!!!
The Risberg Pipeline route will begin in the Meadville, PA area and extend in a northwest direction to Ashtabula County. The project will use approximately 32 miles of existing pipeline in an established Right of Way originating in the Meadville, PA area. Approximately 16 miles of new pipeline will be installed in Pennsylvania and approximately 12 miles of new pipeline will be installed in Ohio.
An Erie company plans to build an $86 million pipeline to carry natural gas through western Erie County and into neighboring Ashtabula County, Ohio. RHenergytrans, located at 558 W. Sixth St., has negotiated rights-of-way for the proposed 28-mile pipeline with some 100 Erie and Ashtabula county property owners. The pipeline would extend from Elk Creek Township in Erie County to North Kingsville, Ohio. The Pennsylvania portion of the line would be built south of Interstate 90 through Elk Creek, Conneaut and Springfield townships. The company applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Oct. 16 for authorization for the project.
“Construction could start in 2018,” spokesman Dennis Holbrook said.
The new pipeline would connect to an existing distribution line in Elk Creek Township owned by RHenergytrans sister company EmKey Energy. The 8-inch and 12-inch line runs south through Crawford County to a point near Meadville where it connects to a Tennessee Gas distribution system that originates on the Gulf Coast. The primary customer for natural gas moving through the new pipeline would be Dominion East Ohio, which has committed to buy about 75 percent of the gas provided, Holbrook said. The utility distributes gas to customers in Ashtabula County, where natural gas has not been available in sufficient supply to fuel commercial growth.
RH Energytrans LLC (RH) has filed an application with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting to construct and operate a new interstate natural gas pipeline system. The proposed Riseberg Line includes pipeline facilities, two compressor stations, metering and regulating stations, and appurtenant facilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio, USA.

THE RISKS (from other sources)
Ruptures and explosions are possible. The US has experienced 14 gas pipeline explosions since 2016. The cumulative damage to the environment caused by gas drilling, gas processing and pipelines can cause serious impacts on wildlife habitat, our air and our water.
PROPERTY OWNERS’ RIGHTS
Be advised that you should not sign an easement agreement without first talking with a professional, just as if you were buying or selling your home. A pipeline easement is a permanent change to your land, it limits how you can use your land, can lower your property values, can be sold or leased by the pipeline company.
